The Curious Case of the Disappearing Plate at MiniTown

Here at MiniTown Café & Play, we’ve seen a little bit of everything… but this one still has us scratching our heads.

The other day, a sweet-looking grandpa walked in with two of his grandkids (both the perfect age to enjoy our playground). They played, laughed, had a great time — and grandpa treated himself to one of our pastries. We served it on one of our plates, as we always do, because, well… coffee shop vibes.

After a while, two more grandkids arrived — but here’s the twist: they were both over six years old. And as many of you know, our playground is strictly for children six and under. Our staff kindly explained the policy, but grandpa wasn’t too thrilled.

Next thing we know, he gathered all four kids, walked them to the car, and came back inside to grab his things. Totally normal… until it wasn’t.

Because as he picked up his bag, he also… very casually… picked up the plate we served his pastry on (now empty) and slipped it into his backpack. Yes — the entire plate. Empty. No pastry. Just… plate.

We watched the footage later and sat there like 😲. He could have just left it on the table or counter. But nope — that plate was going home with him.

Now, we have no idea if this was a revenge plate-napping because of the age rule, or if grandpa simply thought, “This plate’s coming with me.” But here’s the thing — we actually have plenty of to-go containers for pastries, cookies, sandwiches, you name it. If you want to take food home, just ask. We’ll happily pack it for you.

Our plates, cups, and utensils are here to make your time with us comfortable and special — for you and for every guest after you. So please, let’s keep the plates where they belong. They don’t do well in captivity, anyway. 😉

So next time you visit and can’t finish your treat, skip the plate heist and ask for a to-go bag. We promise, no security footage will be needed.

With love,

MiniTown Team
