When Rules Are Broken

At Minitown Café & Play, our mission has always been simple: to create a safe, fun, and memorable space for children ages 6 and under. Every play structure, every toy, and every detail of our playground has been designed specifically for babies, toddlers, and preschoolers.

Because of that, we have a clear and non-negotiable rule: the playground is for children ages 6 and under only. This isn’t just a preference — it’s a matter of safety, insurance liability, and the overall experience for the children our space is designed for.

Unfortunately, this past weekend we had an incident during a private birthday party where this rule was knowingly ignored. Even after clear communication before the event, older children were brought into the playground, creating a situation that put our staff in the difficult position of enforcing the rules in the middle of the party.

Our team members are fully trained and empowered to enforce Minitown’s policies — and they do so for the safety and comfort of all guests. While the vast majority of families understand and appreciate this, in this case, our staff faced hostility and disrespect while doing their jobs. The situation escalated to the point where the police were called, and a formal harassment report was filed on behalf of our employees. We do not tolerate harassment of our employees under any circumstances.

Here’s what we want every future guest to know:

  • The age limit applies every day — whether it’s open play or a private birthday party.

  • Older siblings, cousins, or friends are welcome to attend parties, but they must remain in the café or party room areas.

  • If having older children play in the playground is a non-negotiable part of your celebration, maybe Minitown is not the right venue for your event.

There are plenty of wonderful options for older kids — trampoline parks, arcades, bowling alleys, and more. But our focus is on giving the littlest members of the community a safe, engaging space where they can truly enjoy themselves.

We poured our hearts, energy, and resources into building Minitown. It’s a space made with love — and we will always protect it. Our goal for every party is for the birthday child to feel special, for guests to have fun, and for parents to enjoy a stress-free celebration. That’s only possible when everyone respects the rules.

We appreciate the countless families who support our mission and help us maintain the safe, joyful environment that Minitown was created to be.

With love,

MiniTown Team
